Gospel Truth/Pagan Lies

It is astounding how pervasive Pagan beliefs have become in the world in which we live. There is a massive rise in witchcraft, goddess, self, animal and nature worship. Although these elements of paganism have always been around, it seems that just in the last century they have become openly and blatantly part of mainstream acceptance and thought. Whatever the name of these different systems of thought, they are all part of one overall system called Monism. Peter Jones introduces us to monism and what it means. He presents 5 points that are essential to the entire system of thought. They are :
Pagan Lie # 1 – All is one and one is all.
Pagan Lie # 2 – Humanity is one.
Pagan Lie # 3 – All religions are one
Pagan Lie # 4 – One problem: Amnesia
Pagan Lie # 5 – One escape: Look within.
With these five points Jones outlines a belief system that pervades every area of life. In fact, it’s highly likely that you and I adopt some of these ideas from time to time. However, the beauty of the book is that after each of the pagan lies, he gives a chapter of Gospel truth directly correlating to the lie. It’s no accident that these 5 Gospel Truths are the five Solas’ of the Reformation: Soli Deo Gloria, Solus Christus, Sola Scriptura, Sola Gratia and Sola Fide. In addition, at the end of each chapter is a set of discussion questions, which makes this book ideal for small group study.
This is a very easily readable book that will help you identify and clarify areas of your life where you may depart from biblical thinking. Other books that are helpful in this area are also by Peter Jones called “The Gnostic Empire Strikes Back”, “Pagans in the Pews” and “Capturing the Pagan Mind”. Read ‘em & Reap!
