Doctrine Twisting

Doctrine Twisting- -Wayne House & Gordon Carle
With the great push toward Ecumenicalism, the church is being bombarded with destructive doctrine. As much as we hate to admit it, it’s not a new thing. There have always been groups outside the orthodox purview of Christianity vying for attention and trying to introduce their heresies into the Body of Christ. Though there are many differences of opinion on various aspects of doctrine among orthodox Christians, believers tend to be united around the core beliefs of Christianity. Following are a few of the core beliefs which unite us:
1. There is one God eternally existing in three Persons – Father, Son & Holy Spirit
2. The Bible is the written Word of God, making it fully authoritative and sufficient for life and godliness.
3. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a virgin, fully man and fully God
4. Jesus’ death was a sacrificial atonement for the sins of His people.
5. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
6. The Return of Jesus Christ in bodily form
7. The glorification of the saints and the eternal judgment of the wicked
8. Justification is by grace through faith alone.
This book examines these and other doctrines and sets forth the Biblical position of each. Then it compares and contrasts the teachings of the following nonorthodox groups:
Christian Science
Church Universal and Triumphant
A Course in Miracles
Christadelphians
Foundation for Human Understanding
Freemasonry
Jehovah’s Witnesses
Mind Science groups
Mormons
New Age movement
Rosicrucians
Seventh-day Adventists
United Pentecostal Church
Unity School
Uratia Foundation
The Way International
Word Faith movement
This is more of a reference book than a reader, but a valuable resource, nonetheless. Other resources of this type include Walter Martin’s “Kingdom of the Cults”, Josh McDowell’s “Handbook of Today’s Religions” and James Sire’s “Scripture Twisting”. Read ‘em & Reap!
